About Dr. Courtney Thayer, AuD, CCC-A
Dr. Courtney Thayer, AuD, earned her graduate audiology degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln after studying Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska–Kearney. Her externship in an ENT setting gave her experience connecting hearing-test findings with the broader medical evaluation of hearing concerns and helping patients navigate referrals to other specialties when appropriate.
At Merit Hearing, Dr. Thayer provides approachable, patient-centered hearing care. She believes patients deserve clear education about the options available for addressing hearing loss and tinnitus, and she takes pride in making that education part of every visit.
She understands that patients now have many ways to access hearing-aid technology. Her goal is to find a solution that works for the patient and their communication partners. Patients are involved throughout the treatment decision-making process, and their input carries significant weight when options are discussed. Because hearing healthcare helps people maintain relationships as they age, she believes patients should feel comfortable with and confident in their provider.
Patient education
Dr. Thayer, AuD, has also written for patients outside the clinic. Her article, “7 Frequently Asked Questions About Audiology,” explains how the ear works, common causes of hearing loss, and what people can expect from hearing care.

Patient education is an enjoyable part of Dr. Thayer’s work every day she sees patients, whether she is demonstrating a new iPhone accessibility feature for someone with hearing loss or helping family members understand a patient’s hearing difficulties.
Outside the clinic
A Nebraska native and Husker fan, Courtney now enjoys calling Iowa home. Away from work, she spends time with her husband, their son, and their dog, Rocket. She also enjoys trying new recipes, sharing them with friends, and getting a good book recommendation.
