About Dr. Shelby Matthews, AuD

Dr. Shelby Matthews, AuD, began working with children with hearing loss, language disorders, and developmental disabilities as an undergraduate assistant in the University of Mississippi Hearing and Speech Center’s Hearing Impaired Language and Literacy Program. That experience sparked her commitment to making communication and language more accessible for people of all ages.

She went on to earn her Doctorate in Audiology at Gallaudet University and completed her residency at Duke University Medical Center. Today, she provides comprehensive care across the lifespan while maintaining a special interest in pediatric audiology. She sees patients in person in North Palm Beach and remotely through Merit Hearing’s telehealth-supported St. Louis office.

Pediatric and communication expertise

Dr. Matthews, AuD, holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Her expertise includes early intervention, infant and pediatric hearing assessment, pediatric hearing-aid fitting, and real-ear verification. She can also provide hearing care in American Sign Language.

Outside the clinic

When she is not practicing audiology, Dr. Matthews, AuD, enjoys spending time with her husband and their pug, Ellie, and caring for her large houseplant collection.
